Dream With Colour: A Big, Bright Update on My Ever‑Evolving Creative Journey
(Scroll to the bottom if you prefer a video version)
It’s been a little while since I last shared an update, and so much has happened behind the scenes that it felt like the right moment to sit down, breathe, and let you in on everything that’s been unfolding. If you’re interested in my creative journey — the twists, turns, experiments, and expansions — then grab a brew and settle in. There’s a lot to tell.
A New Creative Space (and a Very Happy Dog)
One of the biggest personal wins for me recently has been reclaiming my daughter’s oldroom and transforming it into a dedicated creative space. I’ve gone full maximalist — yes, the opposite of minimalist — with a bohemian twist. Think pinks, greens, and unapologetic colour everywhere.
My dog has also decided this room is his room now. The moment I shout “big bed!”, he’s up the stairs like a rocket. So we’re sharing the space… but I suppose that’s only fair.
Why “Dream With Colour”?
I realised I haven’t explained the name of my business in a long time — or maybe ever. Dream With Colour began years ago when I was writing blogs centred around colour psychology. I’d completed a diploma in colour therapy and became fascinated by how we’re drawn to different colours at different times, and how those choices reflect our mood, personality, or emotional needs.
As my writing evolved into new genres and new forms of storytelling, the name stayed with me. It still represents the heart of what I do: exploring creativity, emotion, and meaning through stories. Even if it doesn’t scream “storytelling” at first glance, it’s part of my journey — and people are starting to make the connection.
Dream With Colour Today: A Virtual Storyboard
My business has grown far beyond creative writing. Dream With Colour is now the umbrella for everything I do — a virtual storyboard of my journey as a writer, storyteller, and community builder.
A few years ago, I made the decision to separate my independent publishing into its own professional company. This allows me to publish polished, edited books while keeping Dream With Color focused on storytelling, creativity, and community. Think of it as two branches of the same tree: one professional and structured, the other expressive and exploratory.
The Fable Teller: Stories for Children and Families
One of the most exciting developments has been the growth of The Fable Teller, my children’s storytelling branch. I’ve been working on this for a couple of years, and recently I was commissioned by Ashfield Creates (through Non-Such Studios) to deliver Fable Maker workshops for families with children aged 5–10.
These workshops help children create their own fables — stories with morals, meaning, and personal growth woven in. It’s been a joy to watch families work together, exploring imagination and values side by side.
The Bucklebergh Adventures
Growing out of The Fable Teller is The Bucklebergh Adventures, a world of fable characters — including a leprechaun named Little — that will become more than just a book. Think role‑playing, gaming elements, and interactive storytelling. It’s a long‑term project, but one I’m incredibly excited about.
Dream With Colour for Adults: Sharing the Journey
Alongside the children’s work, Dream With Colour continues to be a space where I share my own creative journey. This includes:
The Empress Returns, part of The Penny Drop Pentalogy
A collection of short stories
A collaborative murder mystery created with members of the Cluedom Club — a group of creatives and local entrepreneurs from a walking group. Each member has developed their own character, motives, and plot ideas. I’ve just completed the second draft, and we’re aiming for release by the end of the year.
Storytelling Through Community: Mill Waters Project
Another major update: I’ve been commissioned to support partnership and governance work for a set of Green Flag parks in our local area — Sutton Lawn, Kings Mill Reservoir, and Hermitage Ponds. (Known as the Mill Waters Parks and Recreation Sites)
You might wonder what this has to do with storytelling. The answer is: everything. Communities are built on stories — shared histories, shared hopes, shared futures. My role is to help these communities understand their stories and use them to build stronger, more sustainable partnerships.
Supporting Other Writers
Alongside all of this, I’ve been helping other writers with their self‑publishing journeys on a pro bono basis. It’s been lovely to share what I’ve learned and help others bring their stories to life.
What’s Next?
It’s been a whirlwind few months — colourful, busy, and full of growth. My focus right now is developing content for my website so there’s a strong landing place for everything I’m creating. Once that’s in place, I’ll be sharing more stories, updates, and behind‑the‑scenes moments on social media.
Thank you for following along, for listening, and for being part of this journey. There’s so much more to come
